Oil tankers are used to transport a vast amount of oil across the globe every single day. Maintaining that supply chain can be a challenge at the best of times. The additional strain exerted by the Covid-19 Pandemic made full operational capacity very difficult to maintain. Ensuring a safe environment on often multi-national tankers became even more essential to operational success. Any outbreak as a result of an unhygienic environment could result in the necessity to cease operations and threaten the safety of everyone onboard.

Amidst the current Covid-19 outbreak Kuwait Oil Tanker Company MV Bneider required a total decontamination of the vessel due to an outbreak onboard. To satisfy their insurers that operations could proceed safely, Bneider’s crew required a full manual deep clean as well as an aerosol decontamination of all compromised areas. They were concerned about the feasibility of such a treatment with the crew confined to quarters. Bneider was also unable to move from anchor until this process had been carried out so a quick turnaround was required.

Sanondaf, as with any emergency call out, responded rapidly. A consultative process was started to determine the exact parameters of the call out which allowed us to effectively respond to any unforeseen access issues. The disinfection plan accounted for the operational requirements of the vessel, including any crew movement and timetabling so that our treatments could be carried out with any disruption.

Utilising our patented SanoChem delivered through Fogging and Electrostatic Spraying techniques with a dwell time of 90 and 30 minutes, respectively, we were able to provide a time and cost-effective solution to disinfect the tanker. Due to Sanondaf’s flexibility and speed, our treatment significantly reduced operational downtime while providing optimal safety to the crew. The total vessel cleaning and treatment time enabled the vessel to resume full operation after just seven hours.
